September 2008 - Vatter Family graciously accepts help
Engineer Rick Vatter was recently contemplating retirement due to his wife's declining health. Ricks' fellow firefighters at Fire Station 32 approached the Foundation requesting financial support in purchasing a chair lift for Rick's wife Laura so that she could safely get up and down the stairs in their house. Understanding the importance of maintaining Laura's access to their upstairs bedroom, the Benevolent Foundation was proud to assist with covering the entire cost of installing a stair chair in the Vatter household.
On Saturday September 6, the final installation of the stair chair in the Vatter home was completed. Attached are pictures of the stair chair in the Vatter Home.
"It's here and it works great!! This gift has already changed our lives. It's difficult for me to put in words what this stair chair means to us. Probably the biggest bonus, is Time. We don't have to sell our house. My spine will last longer. The potential for accidents in the home are greatly reduced. The list goes on.... As you may know I may be a bit stubborn at times and would have never thought of asking for help. I am so glad the need was recognized, and acted upon. Laura and I are so proud and thankful for our Fire Family. From our Hearts, we Thank You."
